Javaid hat-trick slays Stonehaven

CULTS COSALT continued their recent winning run with a third successive victory in a fine 75-run win over fourth-placed Stonehaven.

Invited to bat first by the visitors, a quick-fire 33 from Sreedish Devadas helped propel the Cults score onto 60 for the loss of three wickets. A splendid partnership from Kapil Laghate (77) and Ajay Induchudan, who passed the half-century mark for the third consecutive innings with a fine 72 not out, then brought the hosts past the 200 mark.

The home side were eventually able to declare after 42 overs with an excellent 235 for 5 on the scoreboard.

Stonehaven's reply started in belligerent fashion as they plundered 36 from the first three overs before Cults made the breakthrough, with Ali Milroy being spectacularly run out by Debo Barman.

Grades Select opener Alec Keith continued to score freely against opening bowlers Asif Akhtar and Viggy Krishnamoorthy, but a switch to the bowling of Masud Javaid led to Keith's dismissal for a well constructed 44.

Tim Donald scored 30 as Stonehaven moved the score onto 100 for 2, but they eventually succumbed to captain Javaid's second successive six wicket haul.

As the visitors slumped to 160 all out, the highlight of the innings was a four-wicket over from Javaid, which included a hat-trick, and the sting was duly removed from Thistle.

Elsewhere, Bon Accord and Ellon recorded comfortable wins to stay ahead of the chasing Cults men.

On Saturday, Cults have the opportunity to leapfrog second-placed Ellon when the Gordon Park outfit visit Allan Park.
