Kerry's as good as gold!

FINZEAN swimmer Kerry Buchan pipped Inverurie's Hannah Miley to win gold in the women's 200 metres breaststroke at the Scottish National Swimming Championships in Glasgow.

The Edinburgh University member had a further success in the 100 metres breaststroke where she picked up gold as well as playing her part in the relay events to win an additional two gold medals.

Kerry said she was delighted to take home four gold medals along with posting two Commonwealth Games nomination times.

The 23-year-old said: "I was really pleased with how I performed and I would say it is the best I have swam since 2008. I have raced against Hannah loads over the year and it was nice to come out on top."

Kerry has been swimming full-time for the past four years and has been training at Edinburgh University since September.

"I'm really enjoying it," she said. "On a typical day I'm up at 5.15am and doing a two-hour session in the pool before half seven. Later in the day I will do a weight session before another couple of hours in the pool. I'm training full-time with Scottish performance-swimming coach Chris Jones and it's working out really well. I'm working as hard as I can ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October."

Kerry's Edinburgh University won the Best Team Club award, while David Carry (Stockport Metro) and Hannah Miley (Garioch) were the joint winners of the Berger Points Trophy for best performance by a Scottish swimmer.

Cults swimmer Robbie Renwick, representing City of Glasgow Swim Team, won the much coveted 100 metres freestyle gold in a thrilling race. He posted a time of 50.67 seconds to grab top spot ahead of Maxwell SC's Craig Gibbons (51.03) and Stirling Swim/Stirling ITC's Jak Scott (51.08).

He said afterwards: "I've been swimming constantly, I've not rested this week at all; I've just been training through it and trying to get as fit as I possibly can for Delhi. I've got the European Championships in August so hopefully I'll win some medals there and build my confidence for the Games in October. I can't wait to go; it'll be hard work but so worth it."
