"Chris showed what he is all about..."

CULTER co-boss Gary Thow was full of praise for Culter striker Chris Mountford who scored a hat-trick as the Deesiders dumped Dyce out of the GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup.

The first-round tie eventually went ahead at Crombie Park on Saturday following four previous postponements with Culter emerging as 3-1 victors against Dyce who finished the match with eight men after getting three players sent off.

Thow said: "It was a very good win. We all know Chris has the ability to score goals. He has had to bide his time after coming back from a broken leg. He was a bit frustrated earlier in the season about how many starts he was getting but he showed what he is all about with his hat-trick on Saturday."

Thow believed last weekend's friendly against Highland League outfit Deveronvale at the Aberdeen Sports Village helped the team prepare for the cup tie.

He said: "That was our first proper game in seven weeks so it was pleasing to get the victory. We played Deveronvale in a friendly last week and won 4-3. I think that helped us get ready for the Dyce match. It has been a while since we played on grass but I thought we dominated the game. We went 1-0 down against the run of play but we equalised quite quickly. In the second half we hit the post and had one cleared off the line before we went ahead. Once we went ahead they were down to ten men so we were quite comfortable."

Culter face a tricky home match against Longside on Saturday but Thow has his sights set firmly on getting the three Superleague points on offer.

He added: "Longside are a similar team to Dyce and very hard to break down. They have gone on a few unbeaten runs this season and they beat us earlier in the season up there. We dominated the game but lost the match so we will be looking to get three points this week."
