Saints face league leaders in friendly
BANCHORY St Ternan put in a plucky performance against Highland League leaders Buckie Thistle but eventually succumbed to a 5-1 defeat.
Saints manager Steve Scott had arranged the friendly earlier in the week, pre-empting the postponement of his side's game at Maud and Buckie's match at Huntly.
The Saints adapted well to the synthetic surface and played their normal passing game against the Highland League pacesetters.
An early Buckie goal in the 8th minute put Banchory under pressure for a spell but gradually they got into their stride and started to play some good football.
A move down the right looked as though Saints would be rewarded with a corner but the referee gave a goal kick and from a long ball downfield Buckie scored their second in the 25th minute.
A minute later, Allan Ogston could have pulled a goal back after being met with an open goal but his angled shot hit the side-netting.
Two goals from slack defending in the last couple of minutes of the first half gave the home side a four-goal lead at the break.
The second half saw numerous changes from both sides with Saints using all 20 players available. Richard Stainer, who had come on at half time, was forced to come off again after 20 minutes of the second period with Andy Courage returning to the pitch in his place. Within a minute the substitute had pulled a goal back.
Buckie scored their fifth right at the death to close out a game that gave both sets of players a good workout during the long run of postponements over the past few weeks.
