Senior side edge win over Dyce

After the close game earlier on in the season between Dyce and Deeside RFC, this game was always going to be a physical and tough encounter.

Deeside started off well with some good attacking runs with Dyce holding defence strongly until giving away a penalty, which was converted by Tom Fuches.

Deeside finally broke through with a well worked try from Mark Mackenzie, which was not converted.

Deeside were constantly in their opponents 22 but unable to convert hard work into points until a well worked driving maul off a lineout saw Guy Finlayson go over in the corner for try number two which gave the Deeside men a 13-0 lead going into half time.

The second half meant Deeside were playing uphill on soggy footing and were put on the back foot a few times from the Dyce attackers.

The Deeside defence held strong for most part until Dyce went over the white line for a try of their own.

Deeside began to let the game slide and allowed Dyce more chances and were soon only one point behind.

Some solid defence and attacking play from Deeside saw Dyce give away a kickable penalty which Tom Fuches converted towards the end to make the final score 16-12 in Deeside’s favour.

Head coach Clint Parsons said: “We are still not at our best but this Saturday’s game against league leaders Aberdeen Uni-Medics should be a good test of our determination and I have no doubt we will play good, exciting rugby to go top of the table once more.

“We have the team and the skills to win this league and we just need to show it on game day.”
