St Ronald too strong for Banchory

LEAGUE leaders St Ronald visited the Burnett Park last Saturday hoping to maintain their promotion position, whilst Banchory 2nd XI needed points to take them away from one of the relegation slots.

Unfortunately for the home side, St Ronald had their wish at Banchory's expense.

St Ronald lost the toss and were invited to bat first on what looked a good batting track. For the visitors, V Bode (86) and D Miller (64), were the pick of the batsmen. Bode was eventually smartly caught by wicketkeeper Will Rowett off the bowling of returnee Mike Scotting, whilst Miller fell to an outswinger from Jalal Ahmed assisted by a good catch from skipper Johnny Millar in the slips.

Bowling honours went to Millar who had an excellent spell of 12 overs, capturing 4 wickets for the loss of 35 runs. There were also good contributions from Ahmed (2 for 33) and Scotting (1 for 34).

The rest of the bowlers - T Wilkinson, J Crawley, Z Crawley and C Wilson - were expensive...was it something to do with the club's social event the night before?

A good deal of Banchory's batting was full of promise but unfortunately, after a number of starts, no one went on to make the big score that was required. The innings started badly when opener Ken Campbell was caught for 3.

Josh Crawley hit a fine 29 before playing a loose shot and was caught. Bowler D Singh had batsmen in all kinds of trouble with his off breaks bamboozling and bowling Jahal Ahmed (18), Will Rowett (16) and Bob Murray (0). Tim Wilkinson (19) looked solid before returning a catch to E Theron.

The remaining batsmen were Z Crawley (9), Johnny Millar (9), Mike Scotting (2), Callum Wilson (3), and Colin Seaton (not out 0).

Second in the league Gordonians are the visitors this Saturday. Another difficult match is in prospect, with every point vital to the Banchory side.
