We never got going, says Scott

BANCHORY St Ternan boss Steve Scott felt his players got what they deserved in their home defeat to Dyce after a below-par performance.

The Saints, who ended the game with ten men after Kris Downing was sent off for a second booking, went down to a second half Steve Watson strike.

A gracious Scott said Dyce merited their victory.

"It was a very disappointing performance as we never really got going," the Saints boss said.

"Obviously not playing for three weeks and not being able to train outside had an effect. We started off really poorly in the first half and were lucky to go in at 0-0.

"We played better in the second half and possibly shaded it but I have no complaints with the result as Dyce were the better team. We had too many players off the boil. You can maybe carry one or two but not six or seven."

Scott also had no complaints with Downing's dismissal, adding "it was two stupid yellow cards".

One positive Scott can take from the match was the performance of goalkeeper Gavin Robertson who made his debut after joining on loan from Huntly until the end of the season.

Scott said: "I thought he did very well for us. We have also signed a new striker, Allan Forbes from Hillhead, and he came on for the last half hour and looked pretty sharp. He will be a good player for us.

"I'm also hoping to sign Grant Campbell on loan from Wick until the end of the season. He plays in the middle of the park so that will give us more strength as well."

The Saints now have the daunting task of trying to bounce back from the defeat against Superleague titleholders Banks O' Dee this Saturday at the Milton.

Scott is convinced his players will be up for the challenge.

He added: "It is a good game to come into this week. After the disappointment of losing last week the thought of playing the champions should be enough to get the players fired up.

"We have to put the disappointment of losing to Dyce behind us as this will happen every now and then when you have a young team. You don't get consistency with young players. That is a bad one behind us so hopefully we can raise it for this week. We have beaten Banks O' Dee before so we have to believe we can beat them again."
