Banchory St.Ternan travelled to Banff for their first friendly of the season and found the Highland League outfit a bit too hot to handle.
Vale were playing their third friendly so had the edge over the Saints in terms of match fitness.
The home side forced two early corners but it was Banchory’s new boy Jack Henderson who was extremely unlucky not to score in the third minute, when his four yard effort hit the keeper on the goal line only to be cleared.
Deveronvale took the lead on 12 minutes when a Banchory back header under pressure was latched onto by Duncan who wasted no time in dispatcing past Chris Irvine.
Andrew Close was not far away with a header from a Darren Reid free kick.
On 25 minutes it was 2-0 when from a suspiciously offside position Duncan again had only Irvine to beat and made no mistake.
Jack henderosn and Jindrich Biskup combined, with the latter’s effort going a foot over the bar.
Shortly afterwards, a collision between Presslie and the Vale keeper required both physios attending the players for several minutes. Unfortunately for young Jack, his cut eye meant he had to leave the field for a hospital visit where stitches were required.
On 35 minutes Vale increased their lead when from a corner to the Saints back post, Josh Robertson somehow contrived to divert the ball into his own net.
Henderson, who was showing well in his first game for Banchory, went close with a turn and shot which went inches wide.
But right on half time Deveronvale made it 4-0 when a Roberston bad pass gace the striker an easy opportunity.
Manager Sandy carrol made a change for the second half with Craig Simpson coming on for Darren Reid, and Murray Buchan being replaced by Steve Gray.
Both sides had early attempts go over the bar, before Vale made it 5-0 on 55 minutes when a cross found a home player all on his own who squared for Duncan to score his third.
Five minutes later it was 6-0 after good work down the left provide Duncan an easy chance to get his fourth.
Saints seemd to be derailed but give the young lads their due, from this point on they fought back and cretaed some chances of their own.
Andy Smith replaced Dean Leith after 63 minutes and two minutes later a great cross field pass by Biskup found Henderson who squared the ball to Darren Pyper but the midfielder could not control and the chance was gone.
On 75 minutes Andrew Close fired just over after a good three man move.
The last chance fell to Henderson after a Pyper shot was parried but the young Ballater striker’s goal bound effort was deflected past by the keeper’s legs.
Despite losing six goals, manager Sandy Carrol was still upbeat with the performance.
He said: “We played a very strong Deveronvale team at Banff and despite the scoreline I was very pleased with our performance.
“We created chances and our overall play was very good. We did gift Vale a couple of goals but it is better to make mistakes at this stage of the season and I am sure my players will learn fro this.
This was the first time the new squad had played together and there were still positives around the way lads performed. All they need now is more games before the season starts.”
Carrol added: “We entertain Rothes at home on Saturday and I am hoping we get a bumper crowd for the that game, the lads deserve it.”
Next games are Rothes in the last friendly on Saturday 28th July at Milton Park, kick off 2.30pm and then the season starts with a Grill League Cup game against East End at New Advocates Park on Tuesday 7th August 7pm kick off.
