Torphins Community Council is reopening nominations in the hope of finding candidates to replace three longstanding members.

At their AGM on February 5 no nominations were received to fill the vacant posts.

Three longstanding members are also looking to step down but are remaining until the next meeting on March 5 to ensure the continuity of the community council.

Retiring chair Rosemary Bruce said: “The community council is central to life in Torphins and the surrounding area.

“I am quite disappointed that while there are plenty of people who benefit from what the community council does within the village, such as the Christmas lights, carols, our scrutiny of planning matters and raising local concerns with the relevant bodies, there aren’t 12 people from a community of more than 1500 willing to serve on TCC.

“We are reopening nominations for Torphins Community Council and the deadline for nominations is Thursday, March 5, at 5pm.

‘‘Any resident of Torphins, Glassel, Tornaveen and Sundayswells who is on the electoral register can be nominated.”
