A decision on a proposed development of 310 house at Conveth Mains, Laurencekirk will be taken by Aberdeenshire Planning Department.
Councillors decided to follow planners’ recommendation for a delegated grant at the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee on Tuesday.
Aberdeenshire Councils Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee heard the proposal, which include 77 affordable units on Tuesday, January 19.
Commenting on the decision, Allan Rae, Land Director, Kirkwood Homes stated: “We are delighted that the first phase Conveth Mains proposal for Laurencekirk has been approved today. This decision provides a catalyst to start building a wide range of new homes in the town, and importantly the infrastructure to support the phased development of the site.
“As I have said previously, I would like to thank the local community and all stakeholders for their valuable input in in shaping these proposals. We will continue to work with the local community as we commence development, which is anticipated for late summer/early autumn 2016.”
Conveth Mains is allocated (M1) within Aberdeenshire Councils Local Development Plan (LDP) to deliver up to 885 houses and pproximately 11ha of employment land.
The report to councillors stated: “Mearns Community Council, while acknowledging the need for development in the town to achieve planning objectives such as the provision of employment land and community infrastructure, objects to the proposal.”
