Aboyne Academy pupil Isla Kitching is hoping a final fundraiser will help her plans to volunteer in Honduras become a reality.
S6 pupil Isla will be volunteering for a year teaching English in a school in Honduras, the second poorest country in Central America.
The trip, which is organised through educational charity ‘Project Trust’, will see Isla working in a rural community, where there is a growing desire to learn English in order to enhance economic development.
Isla also hopes to get involved with other projects such as volunteering at an orphanage and setting up extra-curricular clubs where there may be a deficit.
A school trip to Mexico with Aboyne Academy inspired Isla to take on this American adventure.
She has seen fundraising success so far through writing to and receiving donations from trusts including The Wood Family Trust which donated £800.
Isla also held a jumble sale in November which raised a fantastic £1200 and hosted a stall at the Aboyne Academy Christmas Fair.
Her final fundraising event will be a ceilidh with renowned local band ‘Clachan Yell’ on Friday February 27 February in Aboyne Victory Hall from 7-11pm. The event is BYOB, with soft drinks and snacks for sale, as well as a raffle.
Tickets £10 (£8), family ticket £25 from email@example.com.
