Aberdeen Lions Club’s Leo the Lion is all geared up and ready to welcome dippers to this year’s ‘Nippy Dipper Boxing Day Dip’.
All he needs now is for hardy souls across the North-east to sign-up to brave the elements and take a sponsored Dip in the chilly North Sea.
The 2016 ‘Nippy Dipper’ will take place on Boxing Day morning at 10.30 am opposite the Beach Leisure Centre.
Commenting, ‘Super Special Lifeguard’ Leo said: “The Dip is a fantastic way to blow away the Christmas cobwebs, have some fun and raise money for local good causes.
“Let’s get lots of people to take the plunge and get involved.”
Lions Club President, Chris Southworth said: “This is a charity dip, with part of the participation fee going to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust (the Lions’ nominated charity).
“It is unique in Scotland in that dippers are also encouraged to raise funds for their own chosen charity or non-profit group. Dippers can take part singly or in teams and many make it a fun event by wearing Fancy Dress. We hope many people will register again this year to take part.”
The Lions Club is delighted to thank Sports Aberdeen for once again agreeing to open the Beach Leisure Centre especially for the dip on Boxing Day morning, and also Coastguard Rescue and Surf Life Rescue for their continued support.
Due to bad weather, last year’s Dip had to be rescheduled but, nonetheless, around 95 ‘Nippy Dippers’ raised almost £15,000 for good causes.
