DENTAL services in Banchory have received a boost after a local surgery announced it will be taking on new patients.
The Fountain Lodge dental practice on Station Road will welcome a mixture of new private and NHS patients after it was announced a new partner has been appointed.
D S Scott, B J Dawson and Associates have welcomed Alan Bennett as a partner in the practice. In recognition of this new partnership, the business has been renamed Fountain Dental Group. It will continue to operate from its Banchory Surgery at Fountain Lodge and Aboyne Surgery on Old Ballater Road. Penny Gammie BDS has also joined the Group as a full-time Associate.
The Banchory Surgery is now able to take on a limited number of patients who wish to be seen on a private basis and patients who are entitled to exempt NHS dental charges.
Further planned development of Fountain Lodge will improve facilities for new and existing patients. It is hoped the building improvements will be approved this month, allowing work to be carried out during the summer months.
West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MSP Mike Rumbles, who has campaigned for local dental provision to be improved, has welcomed the news.
He said: “This is very good news for my constituents in Deeside. I wish Alan Bennett and Penny Gammie every success, and I am delighted that there will be an increase in dental provision locally.
“This news is all the more welcome when you consider the massive shortage of dentists that currently exists in the North-east. The 6 million that was announced recently will hopefully go some way to addressing the problems of recruiting and retaining dentists locally, but in the meantime I wish the Fountain Dental Group every success.”
