Peterculter’s ‘Cafe Bombay’ curry restaurant owners have managed to pick up a second catering award, despite only having been opened in the village 18 months ago.

Khuram Shahzad and Sidra Khuram were delighted to be awarded the 2014 Most Socially Responsible Restaurant Award during the Aberdeen City & Shire Best Curry Restaurant Awards. Sidra said that their new award was given because of the charity funds they had raised with the help of staff and customers, funding which will be go towards research and support for mental health in South East Asia.

Cafe Bombay had picked up the Best Restaurant Awards in 2013 during their first year of operation, perhaps hardly surprising as before moving with his family to Aberdeen chef Khuram had been head chef at the famous Mother India restaurant in Glasgow. Prior to moving to the North-east, Sidra had her own business as a beautician and make-up artist and though she now mainly concentrates on helping her husband with Cafe Bombay she still takes on the occasional special event make-up commissions such as weddings.
