Ballater residents have expressed their shock after a man was killed when a learner driver lost control of a car.
The 36 year-old pedestrian, believed to be a worker on a local estate, died at the scene of the accident on the A93 at Bridge of Gairn near Ballater at around 10.30am yesterday (Sunday January 18).
Police confirmed that the driver of the car involved, a grey Skoda Fabia, was a supervised learner who had been out for a driving lesson.
The car is reported to have belonged to Dee Valley Driving School, which is based in Braemar.
The Skoda turned on to its roof after leaving the snow-covered road before landing on a grassy embankment.
The road was closed for approximately four hours. Police advised motorists to stay in Ballater and Braemar, as no safe diversions were available.
The accident happened as snow swept the Upper Deeside area and temperatures hit lows of -4C.
