A young Deeside racing driver has had a great couple of weekends over the last month, getting to finals at both Brands Hatch and Silverstone.
Sam McKenzie, (16) is only in his first season racing Formula Ford cars for Graham Brunton Racing, but has already produced some great performances.
On October 25, Sam made it to the final of the prestigious Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, which in the past has been won by the likes of Eddie Irvine and Jenson Button.
At this year’s festival, there were 70 entries with only 30 making the final - Sam finished in 18th. He said: “That was the first festival I’ve ever been to - I was learning, and getting quicker every time out.
“It was a great experience to be competing against drivers from all over the world.”
Then a week later, on November 1, Sam made it to the final of the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone, again, finishing 19th in the final, this time out of 114 entries.
He was one of only three British drivers to make the final.
On what’s next for the young driver, Sam added: “I’m not sure exactly, but I think it’ll be Winter testing to get more used to driving the car. I had some good runs, but I’m still making a few mistakes.
“Then, I’ll probably be getting ready for the Mazda Road to Indy competition next year - whoever wins that wins £200,000.”
