A piping event to be held in Banchory has received a boost after being promoted to the “North of Scotland Pipe Band Championship”.

The upcoming Pipe Band Competition, which is being organised by Banchory Business Association in conjunction with the North East Pipe Band Association, has been honoured with its new title.

Organisers believe the promotion to “North of Scotland Pipe Band Association” is a big vote of confidence in Banchory and the team behind the new event.

At present, 12 bands from across the North East have enlisted to take part in the event, which will be held on Sunday, May 24, at King George V Park, Banchory.

Aside from the competition itself, there will be a tent where youngsters can try out their skills on the chanter and find out more about the different bands.

A variety of food, drink and trade stalls will also be present.

Entry will cost £5 for adults and £2 for children.

The “North of Scotland Pipe Band Championship” is intended to be an ideal practice run ahead of the British Championships, which will be held the following Saturday in Bathgate.

Anyone wishing to help by sponsoring the Banchory event, advertising or taking a trade stand on the day should contact Brian Smith by emailing or Paul Panchaud who is contactable via email at for further information about this.
