Strachan Primary School has won a national award for its enterprising approach to tackling social issues.

The school received a Social Enterprise in Education Award from John Swinney MSP to recognise their business and its impact on the school and local community in Aberdeenshire.

The small rural school, with a roll of only 30, runs a twice-monthly community cafe to strengthen links between the school and the wider community.

Profits from the cafe are funding a special ramp to help pupils in the school who use wheelchairs access the local nature garden.

The pupils joined 31 other primary and secondary schools and colleges at the awards ceremony on June 4 in Edinburgh. Strachan School would like to thank Crondall Energy Subsea for their generosity in enabling the whole school to attend the ceremony by paying for the coach.
