Banchory student, Frances Naik, decided to return to education with the aim of furthering her career - a goal which she achieved even before graduating as she has secured her first client for her new hospitality consultancy venture.

Frances, 29, graduated from Robert Gordon University this month with an MSc in International tourism and hospitality management.

Frances completed her first degree, a Bachelor of Music at Glasgow University, in 2005 but had always kept an interest in tourism and hospitality having worked in the industry for several years, most recently as operations manager at The Potarch Hotel.

Frances said: “I decided that it was time to take the next step in my career and so I took a year out of employment to study for my MSc. The course certainly opened doors for me.

“The hospitality and tourism industry in Aberdeen is very close knit so contacting people as part of my dissertation research was a great way to get to know key contacts and get my foot in the door.”

Frances is now in the process of launching herself as an independent hospitality consultant.

She has already managed to secure a contract with the city’s Carmelite Hotel as an operations consultant and has two more prospective clients in the pipeline.
